ASB adds to its thermal spray robot family

ASB Industries, Barberton, Ohio, added a new thermal spray ABB robot manipulator to its thermal spray family to expand its offerings to clients. This new robot, with its small footprint, gives ASB the flexibility to use customized process fixtures that can adapt to its clients’ part processing.

The robot arm adapts to different thermal spray guns that rigidly carry the gun programmed for critical distance from gun to part. It has smooth movement in order to gain consistency and use materials efficiently.

New IRC5 controller software along with a refurbished IRB robot works under the demands of the thermal spray environment and was a conscious decision to control costs while gaining production capabilities. The robot rests on a fabricated platform with mobility by a tow motor which is placed for correct project orientation in one of ASB’s multi-purpose spray rooms.

ABB robot technologies in the controller software include RapidTM flexible high-level programming language, TruMove motion control for program accuracy, QuickMove that focuses on reducing cycle times, and FlexPendant and RobotStudio providing precise path accuracy.
