Oxford Instruments launches software platform for Maxxi 6 coating analyzer

Oxford Instruments, Abingdon, U.K., enhances the Maxxi 6 coating thickness and materials analyzer with the introduction of SmartLink software, combining powerful yet easy-to-use software with high-resolution detector technology. SmartLink, available on previous and select current generations of Oxford Instruments microspot analyzers, has been optimized for the Maxxi 6 to meet the demands of incoming inspection, production control, and quality control personnel.

Utilizing SmartLink, the Maxxi 6 X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectrometer allows for the rapid analysis of coatings applied by electronics and metal finishing industries, as well as compositional analysis of production materials.

With a user interface designed to simplify routine analysis, minimally trained operators are ensured the same result as expert technical staff using point-and-shoot operation. Advanced users can take advantage of features that make it easy to interpret X-ray spectra, derive custom-built calibrations, create reporting schemes to flag out-of-tolerance results, and prepare mapping overlays showing the position and relative presence of elements across a specimen.

Analytical results can be automatically stored or exported in a variety of formats. Combining intuitive operation and powerful analytical features makes it easy for a range of staff to quickly get the right result, thereby increasing productivity.
