Rigaku Corp., Japan, introduces the Nano3DX, a true X-ray microscope with the ability to deliver 3D computed tomography images of relatively large samples at high resolution. The rotating anode provides for fast data acquisition and the ability to switch anode materials easily to optimize contrast for specific sample types.
In X-ray tomography, the entire sample is imaged at multiple rotation angles. This multitude of images is processed by sophisticated computer algorithms to provide a three dimensional reconstruction that can be sliced in any direction, providing new insights into the internal features of the object. X-ray microscopy provides this visualization at a resolution better than a micrometer.
The Nano3DX can analyze a range of materials, including electronics and semiconductors, from multiple angles, using a high-powered rotating anode X-ray source and a high-resolution CCD imager. This enables reconstruction of a 3D image at 0.27 µm resolution. The computer model allows the user to view sections at any point on any plane, providing valuable insights into the structure of the material.
Another distinct feature is its ultra-wide field of view. The nano3DX is able to measure volumes up to 25 times larger in a single scan, compared to other systems at similar resolutions in comparable time frames.
