How fiber-optic cables work




Fiber-optic cables transmit data via pulses of light that travel through very thin silica glass fibers by repeated reflections from the inner walls. This video from Learn Engineering shows how the fibers work to transmit signals, and describes the functions of the other layers of the cable.
