West Michigan Chapter helps BSA put on STEM Quest 2018

On October 20, 2018, the West Michigan Chapter of ASM International helped to put on the inaugural STEM Quest program for Boy Scouts of America. At the event, Youth of all ages and ranks, from 10 years through 21 were able to explore the world of STEM.

From their flyer: “Join us for this dynamic opportunity for youth (Scouters and nonScouters) to engage in hands on STEM activities with partners from your community. We will be inviting all of our STEM Partners to showcase the STEM adventures that they can provide for youth. Additionally, these partners will showcase the requirements they are able cover for NOVA Awards, Adventure Beltloops, Merit Badges, and Explorations that Scouts are looking to achieve. Bring a friend and your family! You won’t want to miss out on this day of fun hands-on STEM Adventures!”

They ended up with an overall attendance nearing 300 people, and had 14 different dynamic partners. Scouts were able to get a variety of Merit Badges and NOVA Awards for all ranks and were able to get their blue cards and NOVA Cards signed on site. They also beat the odds of very unusual weather, experiencing sunshine, pouring rain and sleet, with all of the parnters being able to adjust and provide incredible STEM Activities.
