Sciaky, Inc., Chicago, a subsidiary of Phillips Service Industries, Inc., and suppliers of electron beam welding solutions and metal additive manufacturing solutions, announced an increase in demand for its electron beam additive manufacturing (EBAM) and electron beam welding solutions, despite the global COVID-19 pandemic.
Sciaky’s EBAM metal 3D printing solution is a wire-based direct energy deposition process. EBAM uses IRISS – the Interlayer Real-time Imaging and Sensing System, a real-time adaptive control system that can sense and digitally self-adjust metal deposition with precision and repeatability. This closed-loop control allows Sciaky’s EBAM 3D printing process to deliver consistent part geometry, mechanical properties, microstructure, and metal chemistry, from the first part to the last.
The increase in the demand for EBAM ranges from high-level research and development projects to production of prototype and production parts, mostly tied to the aerospace industry. Many of the EBAM metal 3D printing projects involve a wide variety of high-value materials, such as titanium, Inconel, niobium, copper-nickel, and stainless steel. Sciaky’s EBAM is the only industrial metal 3D printing solution with approved applications for land, sea, air, and space.
