Laser-based illumination module offers up to four times tilt alignment accuracy

Ultra Tec Mfg. Inc., Santa Ana, Calif., introduces its Ultracollimator module for the Ultrapol Advance Precision lapping and polishing machine. The module now includes a laser-based illumination module that offers up to four times the tilt alignment accuracy of the previous generation systems. The module allows for tilt alignment of the polishing machine to the actual die itself, enabling fast, accurate, and reproducible alignment.

Optical Alignment represents  a major leap forward over older mechanical techniques, which essentially rely on guesswork and high user-intervention to align the die before and during the polishing process.

Deviations in wax layer mounting thickness are accommodated by the Ultracollimator simply and easily. Its ‘in situ’ nature allows for constant monitoring of tilt alignment, and also for extremely fast realignment, if necessary, after transfer between microscope and the Ultrapol polishing machine.
