The Ronald E. McNair Center for Aerospace Innovation and Research, at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, partnered with Fokker Aerostructures, Holland, to support and inspire their development of next-generation aircraft technology.
Methane mamba science experiment
For this experiment Mark was given special instructions to wear fire retardant clothes and go light on the hair spray! Steve brought some methane to the 9 News studio, and we all know how well that mixes with fire. A bit of soapy water amazingly saves Mark from serious burns.
Silly Putty material inspires better batteries
Using a material found in Silly Putty and surgical tubing, a group of researchers at the University of California, Riverside Bourns College of Engineering developed a new way to make lithium-ion batteries that will last three times longer between charges compared to the current industry standard.
Microscope offers new image options
Microscopes do not exactly lie, but their limitations affect the truths they can tell.
Nanotube clothes protect against chemical weapons
Nerve agents are among the world’s most feared chemical weapons, but scientists at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Gaithersburg, Md., demonstrated a way to engineer carbon nanotubes (CNTs) to dismantle the molecules of a major class of these chemicals.
