Materion Performance Alloys, Mayfield Heights, Ohio, has more than doubled its capacity to produce foil gauge ToughMet alloys that are used to make the company’s BrushForm 158 copper-nickel-tin alloy strip product line. Over the past six months, the company has increased operations in its plants in Reading, Pa., and Elmore and Lorain, Ohio.
BF 158 products, which are available in various tempers, are widely used in the consumer electronics market. Materion first introduced BF158 products in 2010 to fill the need for higher strength materials for miniaturization of voice coil motor and optical image stabilizing components in electronic devices. BF158 products provide optimal high-strength properties and corrosion resistance in gauges as thin as 0.000984 inches, giving engineers greater flexibility to design smaller, thinner devices with improved functionality.
BF158 TM16, a new temper released earlier this year, offers the highest strength properties available in a copper alloy. BF158 alloys have been proven to outperform other copper alloys, including copper titanium, in applications with high strength/high temperature/corrosion resistant requirements.
BrushForm 96 and BrushForm 158 are high-performance, spinodally hardened, copper-nickel-in strip alloys. They are available in both pre-heat treated (mill hardened) and heat treatable (age-hardenable) strip forms.
