Prof. Dr. Robert Vassen, Deputy Director and department head of Materials for Power Plants at Forschungszentrum Julich GmbH, and also a Professor of Ceramic Technology at Ruhr-University Bochum, was named a Fellow of ASM International at the annual ASM Awards Banquet in October.
The Award citation states, “For innovative developments in thermal spray materials and technology leading to knowledge transfer and successful implementation for energy system applications.”
In 1969, ASM established the Fellow of the Society honor to provide recognition to members for their distinguished contributions to materials science and engineering. Another goal was to develop a broadly based forum of technical and professional leaders who would serve as advisors to the society. The solicited guidance provided by the Fellows enables ASM to enhance its capability as a provider of relevant technical information to its community of materials scientists and engineers in the years ahead.
